To The Gal Who Is Exploring a New Passion, But Isn't Sure Where This New Adventure Fits Within The Current Culture
Hey sister, gosh I feel you. When you are passionate about things your circle isn’t also jazzed about, or you feel like the things your heart leaps at might not click together in tidy ways, it might be easy to start thinking there isn’t a clear next move.
I have a feeling if this resonates with you, there might be a dream in your heart that is worth assigning value to. Your passions get to have value because you are valuable to God.
Assigning value is the agenda for your next team meeting and the only calendar invites being sent are to you and Jesus.
Value doesn't come from society’s norms, likes on Instagram, or validation from that person from high school you run into in the hometown coffee shop who you literally haven't seen in 8 years. You know the scene, catching up on the life highlight reel of the top 5 things you've done since algebra class together in 2014 while the barista is taking forever to hand you your oat milk latte. Her eyebrows turn up when you mention you're really considering trying something new, or you tell her about a group of people you want to serve that she might have never thought about before. Her facial expressions might remind you of cultural standards, but what her eyebrows say or don't, does not get to change your course of action. Nope, Nada, None of that. Your dreams, ideas, and passions, regardless of what the stranger on the internet thinks about them, can have value because… hear me out… YOU have value.
Your clear next move might be assigning value because the Creator of your heart already did. I promise it’s not a frilly thing. Value the dream because He does. He is a good communicator who will help you figure out the next steps. I declare that fear doesn’t get to steal the joy of stepping more fully into your passions in Jesus' Name.
Jesus, I want to chat with you today about some of the passions and ideas rolling around in my heart and mind. You placed them here for a reason. Will you help me sift through them today while helping me catch what is important, and what might still need shaping?
ps. the last thing that might help you take steps in courage today is that we know culture is always changing. The things that you are valuing right now, might just be the next great shift we need.
